About Jade M.

I am a proud first generation scholar and community college graduate, and hold dual Bachelor’s degrees in Anthropology and English from Arizona State University, graduating summa cum laude. I have worked in higher education for nearly six years and am highly passionate about student-facing work. I find inspiration in providing students with resources for their all-around, holistic success (academic, personal, and professional), and when my work contributes to creating safe and inclusive spaces for innovation. I have supported a variety of departments, including career services and academic and transfer counseling services, in community college in administrative, clerical, and student support roles. I am a two-time published author in Johns Hopkins Macksey Journal, and have published multiple short fiction and poetry pieces as well. I enjoy finding ways to implement creative solutions to a variety of problems, tasks, and teamwork. I also value independent work, and enjoy working in a variety of settings in-person, hybrid, and remote. I am especially passionate about implementing and promoting principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice in my work, ensuring welcoming community and educational spaces, and finding ways to think outside the box. I am highly skilled in writing tutoring across the disciplines, professional research writing and conference presentations, and manuscript editing. I have created numerous engaging content for social media, graphic design marketing, and newsletter applications. I provide excellent customer service and enjoy community outreach opportunities, and have also created supplemental learning materials, utilizing the principles of Universal Design for Learning and accessibility in creating these materials. I am proud to have collaborated with my City of Carlsbad Library team, taking on the role of logistics and planning, to deliver the City and Library’s first ever Pride programming in 2023, establishing this as a community norm for coming years, and establishing connections with local organizations committed to DEI&J. I am continuing to pursue education at the graduate level, and my research interests are equally split between rhetoric and literature, and medical and evolutionary anthropology, especially applied anthropological perspectives of public health and epidemiology. I am seeking a career in higher education, and am open to work in related industries, including health research, applied anthropology, academic libraries, publishing and editing, and State/Federal/DoD fields.
