During the Recession of 2009 I was called on by former employers and other contacts to address serious financial conditions in their organizations. I worked for Rural Health Management at their facility in Pahrump Nevada, Desert View Regional Hospital. This was a new facility completed two years prior. At that time the facility had not achieved a break even point and was seriously behind on accounts payable. I worked to increase revenues, reduce costs and commence a project through a developer to build a medical office building on campus. Upon the completion of this work I was then recruited to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs Wyoming. This facility was under sever legal attack due to the actions of a prior CEO. The County Commission and local mayors had called for a forensic audit of the hospital, the facility was in a runaway construction project with no end in sight and engaged in several legal actions. I brought the construction project and forensic audit to and end, establish a plan to meet the financial obligations of the organization and remain in compliance with bond covenants and resolved several of the legal actions. During this time the organization passed through four CEO's. Upon the successful completion of this assignment I was then recruited by the County Commissioners of Sweetwater County. This organization was faced with a $16 million budget deficit. The task was to balance the budget without cutting programs or performing a lay off that would negatively impact the housing market. This was competed by, among other things, implementing an early retirement program.
