Philadelphia

Grid magazine covers local sustainability issues in Philadelphia. Grid is a free, monthly print publication focused on sustainability issues and initiatives in the Greater Philadelphia area. As editor in chief, I oversaw publication of a monthly print and online magazine, as well as a blog, regular email marketing program and robust social media presence. I worked closely with the publisher and art department, supervised a team of freelance writers, and wrote editorial content. Through Grid’s insert program, I worked with organizations such as Mural Arts, Delaware Valley Green Building Council, Fair Food, Sustainable Business Network and the Community Design Collaborative, to create editorial supplements that highlighted those organizations while maintaining Grid’s unique brand and high editorial and design standards.

As communications director at Weavers Way Co-op, I had the opportunity to develop a broad array of communications skills, writing strategic plans and annual reports; executive correspondence; marketing and public relations material; advertising, web and social media content; and signage and print collateral. I also served as Weavers Way’s public spokesperson and media liaison. In my time at Weavers Way I was instrumental in creating a brand and voice that was smart, vibrant and engaged, without being strident. As editor and publisher of Weavers Way’s popular 28-page monthly newspaper, The Shuttle, I oversaw production, distribution and advertising, as well as all editorial aspects. I worked closely with the Co-op’s board, management, committees, membership and non-profit arm, as well as other constituencies throughout the community, to create a broad and diverse stream of content that was nonetheless consistent with the Co-op’s identity
