Situated in the heart of Cardiff Bay, the Wales Millennium Centre is the home for creative arts in Wales. Since opening in 2004 the Centre has welcomed over 18.5 million visitors through its doors and continues to be one of Wales' most popular visitor attractions. Reporting to the Finance Director, and leading the HR & Organisational Development Team, I was responsible for the Centre’s organisational development and strategic HR, in addition to the daily operations and payroll for an organisation that employs approximately 400 members of staff and engages with an additional 200 volunteers.Some key acheivements over the years include:The successful development and implementation of the Centre's People Strategy which secured our Investors in People silver accreditation.I project managed the Centre's implementation of the Real Living Wage, where 52% of our colleagues received a significant uplift in their rate of pay, in addition to overhauling the way in which we engage with our casual workers.The successful delivery of a business wide restructure, including the implementation of a volunteers programme which increased head count by 25% in just 15 months. This change programme generated significant cost savings (circa £200k), and more importantly transformed and aligned the structure of the organisation to the business vision. The volunteers programme also delivered an enhanced customer experience and provided another channel for people to become more involved in the arts.

Whilst more operational in nature, this HR generalist management role provided me with the solid foundation to develop my strategic thinking as a HR & OD professional and take the next step. I was responsible for advising, delivering and overseeing all employment matters, including but not limited to the following; recruitment and selection, performance management, L&D, discipline and grievance, TUPE, employee engagment, and KPIs and management information.

Newport Housing Trust was a social landlord that provided housing in the Newport area to people over the age of 60. In 2014, Newport Housing Trust merged with Charter Housing and are now formally known as Derwen.In this role I was responsible for leading on all day to day operations in relation to HR, payroll, communications and events. I fulfilled all similar duties as described above and as expected from a generalist HR Officer role. I also gained key exposure at Board level and provided governance support. I also had the opportunity to support the organisation with key projects including the recruitment of an interim CEO and during the planning phase of the merger with Charter Housing, including TUPE.
