Hands Across the Water is an Australian charity that gives at-risk Thai children and their communities a helping hand. Their projects are tailored to meet local communities’ needs – for the long term. The work they do is focused on improving the lives of the kids and their communities today and in the future.In 2019 I decided to hop on my bike and ride 500km through Thailand to raise money for these amazing kids. Having been over there and spent some time with them, I can see first hand the difference this money makes to their lives.We met Ice who was 8 years old at the end of the bike ride. He was a confident and happy kid who has been through a traumatic and tough beginning in life. His mother was a drug addict and his grandfather would be left to look after him and his brother. Forgetful in his old age, his grandfather would leave the boys at 5 and 6 locked in their room for long periods of time. So much time in fact, that the boys would have to break out to scavenge for food at restaurants and rubbish bins. In agreement with the mother, the boys were taken in by Hands Across The Water where they could be houses, provided education and much love.

I provided executive assistance to the Chief Executive, Chief Financial Officer and Board of Directors.I was responsible for the company and board secretariat duties including Companies Office updates and annual returns; minute taking at board meetings and running the AGM.During my time at CentrePort I supported senior executives in areas including finance, sales, marketing, operations, property and infrastructure.It is in this role that I grew to be the efficient, diligent and value-adding assistant I am today. This busy role allowed me to develop and refine my multi-tasking and time management skills.Having supported the Chief Financial Officer at CentrePort for over six years has taught me about the financial world and I have gained valuable industry knowledge over this time. I also took the time to really gain an understanding of the business and the senior executive decision making process, allowing me to take on an advisory role to my managers. I also led the support team and was the day to day manager of the receptionist.
