I have been a designer all my working life. Earning my stripes in the design studios of Sir Terrance Conran in London and Michele De Lucchi in Milan. Subsequently I worked at Imagination, where I learned about experiential design, how to engage people through compelling storytelling and bringing life to interiors through merging interior design, graphics and film making.In 2002 I co-founded Blacksheep, a predominantly commercial interiors practice specialising in Hotels, Bars and Restaurants. At the time we were trailblazers in the industry and worked for leading hospitality brands, entrepreneurs and Michelin-star chefs including Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver. Other discerning clients included; Four Seasons, Accor, Hilton, Wedgwood and Waterford. We were renowned for our experiential nightclubs including The Cuckoo Club, Boujis and had projects globally.After an incredible 10 years, overseeing the creative direction of our 40 strong studio, a change in life circumstances led me to set up Jo sampson Studio.Jo Sampson Studio tied together all my past experiences, not only did I start designing products but I was entrusted with the strategic development of luxury brands. I loved seeking out the lost or unseen specialities and uniquenesses in brands, making them relevant and exciting for new audiences and to keep thriving.Alongside strategy and branding I was fortunate enough to be commissioned to design products (often for the brands that I had helped strategically) My approach is to surprise the consumer and delight, creating unexpected design solutions but rooted in heritage, relevance and ambition. My collaborations result in timeless collections which are both understated and opulent in equal measure. Whether it be a cocktail table, console, glassware or artwork, my versatile designs exude a signature elegant style and refined aesthetic. I have had collections, under my own name, with the following brands:Waterford CrystalWedgwoodVista AlegreWendover Art GroupHeritage Home Group - DrexelI am incredibly proud that my collections have been sold worldwide in eminent stores such as Harrods, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales and the Cupola Light, designed for Vista Alegre won two prestigious design awards in Germany in 2019.Recently I have co-founded two Art companies; Artorial, a consumer facing brand which celebrates designer collections and collaborations and Art Atelier London, a full service consultancy from concept to installation, which brings together my key skills of compelling story telling, interior design and styling.
