Progressing internally from the position of Qualifications Development Manager to Learning and Assessment Team Manager , I now have line management for the Learning and Assessment Team, overseeing both qualification and learning solution development and driving 1st4sport Qualifications forward with innovative new products and services. Moving into a more strategic role, I am involved in the setting of the future development targets for both new and existing provision and ensuring these are achieved by the team. Whilst I oversea the learning and assessment team, I continue with my own qualification development responsibilities and to liaise regularly with the key external stakeholders within both the sports and educational sectors ensuring that key information is effectively disseminated to relevant team members.
This role has seen me develop from a qualifications development officer to a qualifications development manager (QDM) over my first six months in position. As a QDM, I am responsible for developing, implementing and managing a range of sport and recreation qualifications. In order to be able to carry out this role effectively, I must regularly liaise with the technical partner for the qualification to ensure that the qualification is meeting the industry needs, monitor the quality of the delivery and assessment of the qualifications via the deployment of external verifiers, and ensure that there are sufficient qualification resources on stock to enable all candidates to receive a high quality product for their learning experience. I am also required to attend regular meetings with other awarding bodies, sector skills councils and government bodies to ensure that information and developments are shared amongst interested parties. In the development of qualifications, I am responsible for producing high quality, user-friendly documents for distribution to both candidates and deliverers for our qualifications, and ensuring these are ready for use within agreed timescales.
Supporting the Qualifications Development Managers in the creating and formatting of qualification documentation, attending partnership meetings and developing qualification ideas to feasible working projects.
In this role I delivered modern apprenticeships in operations and development, instructing exercise and fitness, operational services and activity leadership. This involved providing support and information to young adults in the work place to help them gain vocational qualifications in their chosen area of employment. I was responsible for marketing the qualifications we delivered in both new and existing centres in order to maintain my caseload to a satisfactory level. I assessed candidate performance against national standards for NVQ level 2 and 3, a range of key skills, and CYQ qualifications. I was also responsible for completing a range of documents detailing achievements, activity levels and reviews carried out. As a remote worker, I managed my own diary to ensure I met all targets I was set, saw all my learners at least once every 4 to 6 weeks and completed all relevant paperwork within the timeframes given.
As the Senior Fitness Advisor at WoodLand, a corporate site for PAG employees, I was responsible for writing staff rota’s, rescheduling the fitness class timetable, writing and implementing gym challenges, remarketing the Treatment room across the PAG site and in local villages, interviewing potential new staff and training new staff on operating procedures, membership retention and overseeing the day to day health and safety checks carried out in the gym, sports hall and hydrotherapy areas. I also had to continue with general fitness advisor roles including conducting induction sessions for new members and writing exercise programs specific to the individual, reviewing and updating programs on a regular basis, teaching exercise classes and performing tours of the site to prospective customers. I was responsible for carrying out daily checks on the hydrotherapy pool and gym equipment, making sure both were safe for public use, and of a satisfactory level of cleanliness, pool plant operation and reception duties, including opening and closing the building and cashing up. I provided a Personal Training service, dietary analysis and organised and coached the on-site Netball training group. During my time with Healthworks, I occasionally provided cover for a number of sites. One of these was a one-man site where time-management was paramount, and another involved helping to prepare the Bank of England site for opening.
