"I put my experiences to work," explains Joan. "I was able to draw support from many individuals, businesses and organizations that shared a common vision. This enabled me to turn the vision into reality."Joan's professional career began as a Registered Nurse working in both Labor & Delivery and the Emergency Department. During this time, she witnessed a variety of sufferings in many families, particularly in the children and adolescents. Those experiences coupled with her strong belief in the value of all life, especially the unborn and young pregnant women, led her to create the first maternity home. Joan has spoken, on two occasions, before the United States Senate subcommittees concerning the importance of community and government partnerships in non-profit arenas. In addition, she served on the Senate Subcommittee on Families and Children for the U.S. Senate "Project of American Renewal." She has received many awards for her work including the highest award given in the state of Indiana, "The Sagamore of the Wabash." , "2000" Southern Indiana Chamber of Commerce "Professional of the Year", and "2006" State of Indiana Corporate Citizenship Award" for creating Indiana's Small Innovative Non-Profit of the year.
