My worklife is dedicated towards contributing to build a human society that can be in equilibrium with our planet, and providing for a better global environmental situation than the one we have inherited. Starting from an engineering background in renewable energy, my path has taken me through innovation & entrepreneurship and, lately, towards science and academia. Invited Researcher - Lca & Climate Neutrality Of Dairy Production
Research on environmental and climate impact of livestock on a 2-month research stay in Davis, California. Joining a global reference lab on environmental impact of livestock, complementing LCA with climate impact assessment through a radiative-forcing based methodology. Research topics included:- LCA of a dairy cow in California, from craddle to farm gate, basing on UN-FAOSTAT and IPCC guidelines and using OpenLCA software with multiple data bases.- Review of 2030 objectives in methane emissions reductions set by public policies already being implemented in California.- Review of current GHG emission reduction technologies within the dairy industry on a global level, and assessement of development and implementation of such technologies in California on a mid-term horizon (2050).- Assessment of GHG emission reductions on the long-term (2100), on a theoretical basis supported by the shorter-term assessments.- Quantification of climate impact of the sector's GHG emissions (CO2, CH4 and N2O) from 1950 until 2100 through a radiative-forcing based computational model. Design of different scenarios for 2030, 2050 and 2100 based on the above. - Assessment of actual net-zero and climate neutrality potential for the Californian dairy sector.UC Davis is ranked first in the US and second in the world in the fields of agriculture and forestry (source: UC Davis web site, citing 2021 QS World University Rankings by Subject).
