Managing the Facilities, Compliance and Improvement team (FCI), ensuring high standards are maintained by the various outsourced service providers across the site. Delivering good data and information to teams to support a continuous improvement culture, as well as to ensure compliance with planning conditions, other site permits, as well as embedding the various management systems and the Tarmac ‘Act’ sustainability strategy.

Using continuous improvement techniques, facilitated identification and delivery of projects at sites across the West Midlands and Wales area, delivering value of over £4m to the business. Established monthly cost per tonne review sessions with Area and Site Operations Managers, ensuring good cost control supported the wider improvement projects underway. Supported the business development and roll out of a standardised electronic maintenance system and app, delivering training and ongoing support to site operatives and maintenance teams. Delivered Root Cause Analysis (RCA) training to management teams, through to operatives and technical staff, improving the quality and quantity of RCA’s being carried out for plant breakdowns and out of spec materials.

Responsible for building joined-up Energy Strategies and for delivering energy improvement solutions:• Worked closely with the Environment Team to integrate the ISO50001 documentation and tools within the new EMS system, reducing duplication and work for the business.• Trained and supported sites with the implementation of the integrated energy and environment management system. Achieving certification to the ISO 50001 standard, and compliance to ESOS (Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme) regulations.• Collaborated with key personnel across all business areas and an external media company, to update and improve upon printed energy resources. Refreshed resources were then issued to over 250 sites, increasing awareness and engagement with energy efficiency measures.• Led investigations into the use of Energy Performance Contracts as a solution to achieve long term 2020 CO2 reduction targets.• Drove progress towards the Tarmac Volunteering strategy objective, by delivering volunteering roadshows, and management of the core volunteering partnership with Solutions for the Planet.

Responsible for supporting Leicestershire schools signed up to the SCoRE programme with the implementation of energy management measures and for recruiting schools to the next phase of the programme. Specific duties include:- Supporting schools with the development and implementation of activities related to improved energy management.- Delivery of energy based informative school assemblies and staff briefings. - Collation and development of content for a quarterly Go Green schools newsletter.- Liaising with other LCC teams and contractors to arrange specific support to schools.

Responsible for developing and progressing Mitchells & Butlers Environment and Sustainability activity, and for raising the profile of the Energy, Environment and Sustainability (EE&S) Team within the business.o Identified long term sustainability risks to the business.o Gained agreement for priority sustainability risks to be integrated into the primary business strategy going forward.o Benchmarked current performance against sustainability indicators and identified key opportunities for further improvement.o Identified key internal stakeholders, gaining prime time on departmental meetings for EE&S team members to attend and discuss opportunities for collaboration.o Developed engaging environmental communications, making use of social media, such as Facebook, increasing visibility to the wider workforce, and developed content for publication in the annual CSR report and PLC website.

Developed the RNLI’s environment and sustainability strategy, ensuring departmental plans incorporated appropriate objectives. Successfully achieved ISO 14001 accreditation by planning, communicating, managing and monitoring the delivery and implementation of all associated activities.Delivered reduction in energy use during 2011 through the installation of energy efficient equipment and renewables across 300+ properties.Identified an opportunity to repurpose decommissioned lifejackets into products which could be sold through the RNLI shop, reducing waste and creating a revenue stream.

• Successfully reduced landfill waste by 48% and completed ongoing energy audits to identify further areas of improving waste management. • Investigated energy efficient technologies and products and implemented measures that resulted in £130K cost savings over 21 months.• Identified and recommended resource efficiency opportunities within the build of the homes.• Managed and motivated the Green Champion volunteers to identify resource efficiency opportunities and comply with ongoing environmental legislation.
