The Blind Institute of Technology (BIT) offers a Digital Accessibility Apprenticeship program designed to provide hands-on training and experience in digital accessibility. The program focuses on empowering individuals, especially those with disabilities, to develop skills in creating accessible digital content, websites, and software. Apprentices also gain practical experience by working on real-world accessibility projects, collaborating with organizations to identify and fix accessibility barriers. The program aims to bridge the gap between accessibility needs and technical solutions, preparing apprentices for roles in digital accessibility analysis, auditing, and consulting.Participants in the program learn about accessibility standards, such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and are trained to evaluate and improve digital platforms to ensure they are usable by individuals with disabilities. ·Instructed on topics covering Algebra, Financial Mathematics, and Geometry for classroom sizes ranging from 15 to 30, using direct in person lessons as well as online learning platforms such as Blackboard and Canvas.·Prepared for handouts for class, lead 5 one-hour discussion sections, recorded lectures, held office hours, and assisted students in course materials.·Monitored student progress using online grade book, gave feedback on a daily and weekly basis, and discussed performance with students, parents, instructional supervisor, counseling staff, and administrative staff.·Invited monthly guest speakers from local community in STEM related industries into class to talk with students.
