In 2013, my son, Sam, asked me to tell him a story as I put him to bed instead of our usual routine which included reading two or three books. He was about 4 years old at the time. I decided to tell a story about a loyal friend. I picked an animal that I thought wouldn’t normally have a lot of friends; a turtle. Largo was slow and being slow kept him from “normal” stuff. He wanted to be like some of his other friends but there wasn’t anything he could do about it. What was the purpose of being slow? It didn’t make sense to him. He really wanted to talk about it with someone. But none of Largo’s friends would walk home with him because he was too slow. Enter Shelby.Friends help us in many ways. Usually, friends keep us from being lonely, but they also listen to our problems and our dreams. They spend time with us and care about what happens to us. Friends stick up for us, too. Loyal friends help us to find our purpose. Shelby and Largo help each other see that there really is a reason why Largo is slow. They don’t understand everything yet, but Largo begins to see that there is a purpose to his slowness.I hope you enjoy Largo. He has a message for each of us. Usually the one thing we don’t like about ourselves is the thing that helps us find our purpose. Appreciate who you are and use your special gifts to help others find their purpose.
