During my senior year at Pennsylvania State University, I completed a year-long student teaching internship with the Professional Development School (PDS). I completed this internship program in the State College Area School District (SCASD) at Mount Nittany Middle School in State College, PA. The PDS program differed from traditional student teaching in many ways. One of which being that interns are in the classroom for 185 days versus being in a classroom for only 16 weeks. The first half of the year was mainly for observational purposes of our mentors, as we were still completing our coursework through Penn State. The second half of the year is when we "took over"​ the classroom with every lesson plan was our own. Within this period of time, when we "took over" the classroom we not only taught lessons by ourselves, but we also co-taught with our mentors as well. The PDS program is a program that thrives on collaboration, which I learned from my experiences in the classroom.
