About Jocelyn Mackey
I recently completed my Bachelor of Engineering Honours in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Victoria. I have over 3 years of experience in the medical product development industry. My primary focus is mechanical design, however, I have experience in a variety of areas including manufacturing, testing, regulatory assurance, and business development. During the final year of my degree, I completed an Honours Thesis in orthopaedic research, where I evaluated the stability of 3D-printed patient-specific surgical guides for shoulder arthroplasty. I also served as a project lead for the UVic Biomedical Engineering Design Team, and I was awarded the IEEE Gold Medal for academic achievement in Biomedical Engineering. Since graduating, I now lead the engineering activities at a med-tech startup in Victoria BC (GuideStar Medical Devices). I’m excited to continue working in product development and I’m always happy to chat about new opportunities. Worked with GuideStar’s product development team to design and develop a mechanical device for epidural needle placement. I was highly involved in all engineering activities including design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing. During the manufacturing stage I served as the team’s technical lead, bringing the design from prototype to near final product.
