My project is based around observations of cat behaviour when exposed to an unpredictable environment. This project enabled me to develop skills required for research such as communication, decision making, leadership and technical skills. The technical skills I gained includes developing and using an ethogram to measure cat behaviour, writing a literature review, accurate data collection, devising a trial protocol, submitting a report to seek project approval and writing the final report. ­I orginally started here in 2010 and was then offered paid employment once I turned 18 years of age. My main role is to work as part of a small team to supervise and educate groups of volunteers who are young people from disadvantaged and often challenging backgrounds. I am responsible for supporting and motivating volunteers to work safely as a team and engage with the care of the animals.
