I have the best job in the world.I have worked my way to the level of being VP of Robot Technology and Partner at BluePrint Automation Robotics Division. I run the electrical and software engineering groups at BPA and have the best teams imaginable working for me.BPA concepts, designs, builds, and installs the best packaging machines and lines in the world. My division specializes in the vision guided high speed robot based systems. Our bread and butter projects tend to use the super fast delta robots made by ABB and others to do mainly primary and secondary packaging, but sometimes get into tertiary and palletizing system as well when required. We do all kinds of packaging but most of our business is in the food industry. We got our start and are especially good, but not limited to, packaging flexibles.We have a special relationship with ABB Robotics but also design and produce our own line of delta and gantry robots. We have also used FANUC and some other robots as well.For vision we like the broad range of solutions Cognex provides but have used many others in the past, both commercially available as well as home grown. There are some very exciting things going on in the machine vision space right now, especially with 3D and Deep Learning systems. There is always new technology coming along to learn and apply!The part I enjoy most about my job is the concepting specific solutions for customers and working with them to bring the solution to fruition. I get the same thrill with a little single robot system as I do for a big 24 robot system. When things are up and running in production, its a lot like having your kids leave home knowing they are doing meaningful work! Concepting and developing systems gives me the same feeling I got when getting that train set or Lego kit on Christmas morning and being so excited to see what I could build with it.Like they say, when you enjoy what you do you'll never work a day in your life. The fact that I am involved with a company full of people who feel the same way is just the icing on an already fantastic cake.I'd love to talk to anyone considering a career, system, supplier, etc. in this industry.
