About Joe Eason
I have over a decade of experience in the rail industry at many levels of maintenance and management, I am a keen learner and like to challenge myself to identify and solve problems. In my latest role, I have pushed myself to better understand MS office tools and applications for better automation processes and excel documents. I have produced some tools in this way to better help customers and less experienced colleagues or new starters to better identify problems and solutions, quicker.I started as an apprentice with Siemens on their desiro fleet under the TransPennine Express contract, I made plenty of progress with Siemens at their depot in York, where I grew to be a lead technician and routinely carried out supervisory roles. During the class 185 overhaul with TPE's upgrade program around 2017-2019 I was heavily involved in the engineering processes. The upgrades involved new electrical systems, with new LED lighting systems being installed and I worked with the design engineers to find problems and discrepancies with the new drawings and translate them to a working system on the unit. Here I really enjoyed the challenge of having to fault find and weed out the teething problems caused by disturbing existing electronics and fitting new ones. I always felt a sense of pride everytime a unit left the depot fault free, with all of the new hardware and software operating correctly. After 9 years with Siemens and achieving a HND level of college education I moved on to work with DRS as a field support engineer. I was responsible for maintaining and repairing the diverse range of locomotives and wagons that DRS operates. It was a real challenge and a treat to be able to work on and fault find with such a diverse range and age of locomotives. Some were as old as steam engines in the case of class 20s and 37ss and some were factory fresh as brand new introductions in the case of class 68s and 88s. It was an exciting and diverse role which could see me addressing traction issues on a passenger service in Scarborough one day and failed compressors on quarry locomotives in the peak district the next day.Now I have moved into a more managerial role with Hitachi in the form of maintenance control where we oversee the planning, maintenance and organise in-service repairs for the new class 800 fleets operating for LNER, TransPennine Express, Hull Trains and LUMO. I am enjoying the new challenges of office life and have turned my fault finding and programming skills to automation in office applications and creating new and innovative tools.
Listed skills include Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Fault Finding, and 2 others.
