Responsible on a shift basis for the day-to-day management of Train and Instructor Operators on the Piccadilly line. My role includes ensuring that staff are fit for duty and compliant with the relevant railway operating rules and procedures and are delivering a reliable and safe service to customers. I have also held responsibility for conducting Planned General Inspections to maintain safety and compliance with the relevant standards.

Working on a shift basis with responsibility for four stations on the Piccadilly line through central London in addition to holding specific accountability as a "mini-landlord" for staff competence management, safety and the provision of world class customer service at one of the largest and busiest interchange stations on the Underground network. I have managed staff through a period of ongoing change to the stations function and ensured that the key messages regarding this were passed concisely in both directions, whilst improving performance as measured on the stations scorecard and face-to-face customer feedback.

On the London Underground & Rail management scheme I have undertaken a number of operational and office-based placements and gained experience in a number of areas including Revenue Control, Employee Relations, station & trains management and Service Control.Having undertaken the rules and procedures training, I have gained an Operational Manager license and many of my placements have involved me undertaking the role of a Duty Manager and taking on the responsibility of the immediate first-line management of operational staff in addition to responding to and managing local incidents in line with LU's operational procedures and customer service standards. I have also been responsible for maintaining safety procedures and also assisting with the development of risk assessments and emergency plans for special events and implementing new methods of working, in conjunction with support functions and trades union representatives. Key achievements whilst on the graduate scheme have included developing a report and presentation to staff & management representatives regarding prevention and management of signal passed at danger incidents, and delivering high standards of performance, customer satisfaction and safety at a key central London station which I was responsible for managing. In addition, I have held responsibility for implementing a new performance scorecard and assisting Duty Managers with performance management of operational staff of various grades, including Train Operators and station-based staff.

I sit as an independent director providing oversight and scrutiny of the activities undertaken by the partnership as well as advising on strategy and identifying opportunities for the development of local rail services in the West of England, Somerset and Gloucestershire. This is a voluntary role.
