RocheMartin's leading psychologists and experts in the field of emotional intelligence - Dr. Martyn Newman and Judy Purse - recently developed the world's first scientifically valid and accurate psychometric tool to measure athlete's emotional intelligence as it pertains to elite sports performance - the Emotional Intelligence Sports Inventory (ESi). This inventory signifies an innovation in the measurement of elite sporting behaviors and as well as benchmarking athletes against a database of elite performers, the tool provides tailored coaching strategies and an action plan to build 10 key competencies that extensive research has indicated as being related to elite sports performance.My role within RocheMartin holds a particular emphasis regarding the further development of the sport psychology practice. I also deliver individual performance coaching sessions and group workshops for our business clients. Some of my current responsibilities include:- overseeing the technical and psychometric development of the ESi.- designing and delivering tailored training programmes within business and elite sport to enhance social, emotional and mental skills to improve performance.- delivering our unique certification programme to equip practitioners with the knowledge and skills to deliver feedbacks and training based on our suite of EQ tools.

Within this position, I worked closely with the University of Stirling’s high performance golf scholars, liaising with their head sport psychologist and coach, identifying and implementing psychological strategies during training and in competition. This provided me with the opportunity to enhance my knowledge and skills of applied sport psychology in an elite sporting environment.

- The experience I gained working in this sporting environment for four months was a valuable one, introducing me to various aspects of the sporting industry.- Although not sport psychology based, it gave me a further insight into carrying out research in sport as well as providing me with useful contacts within Scottish sport, which I have since drawn upon to carry out further research.- Worked on an academic style paper that was subsequently put forward to the Scottish government as a proposal to re-introduce safe standing sections in football stadiums in Scotland.- The experience enhanced my communication and writing skills, whilst enabling me to build rapport with some leading figures in Scottish football.
