Software engineering for medical equipment product development. Responsible for the design and implementation of several software threads on an ARM processor, including File System, Logger, and Test Message Handling. This effort spans the range from capturing requirements through design, coding, and testing. Utilizing embedded C++, IAR Embedded Workbench, ThreadX RTOS, Quantum Framework hierarchical state machines, LDRA code analysis, and Perforce version management tools.

Provided software and systems engineering support to the ITT GPS receiver products. Adapted ITT software processes to new products and to the legacy products of a newly acquired company. Worked with test and systems engineers to analyze GPS receiver performance to identify and correct software performance problems.Technical lead on a project to refactor complex legacy receiver software to conform to Object Oriented Design principles. Achieved significant reduction in code complexity while improving receiver performance, code maintainability and code extendibility.Principal investigator on the Embedded GPS Receiver (EGR) Software IRAD. Utilized UML design principles to derive the Software Design Document for the receiver.Implemented (design / code / test) many EGR software corrections and upgrades. Resulted in improved dynamic performance, throughput, and accuracy.Developed GPS receiver test scenarios using a Spirent GPS simulator resulting in enhanced software product validation processes.Produced preliminary receiver software development plans for the modernized GPS satellite signals.Conducted training sessions in the areas of Software Processes and GPS Systems.

Provided systems and software engineering for Speech Processing systems and products. Led algorithm development efforts for research and development projects. Principle Investigator, Cost Account Manager, and Lead Programmer on several contracts. Author and presenter of technical reports.Responsible for the implementation of vocoder and FEC algorithms for a VHF radio. Used UML design and DOORS requirements tracking tools to generate the software requirements, software design, and software test plans.Hands on coder and supervisor of the programming team that implemented these algorithms, primarily in C++ with some DSP assembly.Led an independent research effort to improve the performance of Speech Recognition software in the presence of high-level non-stationary acoustic noise. Developed new noise detection and estimation algorithms and validated them with high level simulations written in C. Modified the product code to include the improvements that were developed under this study, resulting in enhanced system performance in extreme noise environments.Principal Investigator on a DARPA project to study the use of Neural Network algorithms for speech recognition. Provided technical leadership and cost account management to other researchers and sub-contractors.Developed and implemented a neural-network speech recognition system that resulted in enhanced performance of a legacy speech recognition product.Principal Investigator on an Air Force project to develop algorithms to separate two different voice signals on a single channel. Developed the algorithms and led the team which implemented them on the delivered system. Resulted in significant improvement in co-channel speech intelligibility.Adapted ITT's Speech Recognition software to run on a PCMCIA card for a new product. Ported C code from a UNIX platform into a DSP environment (C and DSP assembly) and developed new audio interface software.

Provided software engineering support to a large number of speech processing related projects and products, including vocoders, speech recognition systems, and speaker identification systems.Worked with speech scientists to develop, code and test prototype speech analysis and speech processing algorithms.Implemented algorithms on commercial DSP and / or custom signal-processing hardware to achieve real time operation. Optimized performance by coding in assembly language as required.Created a large suite of signal processing application programs for use in research and development including: digital filter design, spectrum analysis, pitch analysis, adaptive filtering, and special purpose speech analysis tools.
