I've been writing and shooting food and travel stories for major dailies, news services and magazines around the world for more than fifteen years. In 2014, I moved to Washington State's remote Lummi Island to write "Sea and Smoke," an award-winning book and cookbook with chef Blaine Wetzel at The Willows Inn. It was published by Running Press in October 2015.I am a contributing kitchen-gear reviewer at WIRED, specializing in cookbooks, coffee, and the "smart" kitchen. I regularly speak on and moderate panels about food and food technology.My stories and photos have appeared with The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Agence France Presse, Sunset Magazine, The Houston Chronicle, The Miami Herald, The Chicago Tribune, Le Monde, The Guardian, Robb Report and many others. I was named the Lowell Thomas Travel Journalist of the Year by the Society of American Travel Writers Foundation in 2009.
