Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries. Our partnerships include the National Association of Music Merchandisers (NAMM), the recording industry’s Music Performance Trust Fund, publisher and music education innovator Alfred Music (Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, and The Who, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings.

We wanna change the way we all think about music in society...globally. Currently, we’re doing this by identifying and spotlighting successful projects using music as a platform for other agendas, stuff like Conflict Resolution, Sustainable Community Development and Education. Every culture has its own music, a unique “natural resource”, as diverse as the planet itself, a resource that remains largely untapped. Unlocking the value hidden within is what "Music As A Natural Resource" is about. Across every continent, music is taking on a new a role, transcending our understanding of music as an art form: serving as the channel to improve community development and peace building, the backbone of a variety of medical/healthcare efforts, the platform for teaching math, history or science. Through a unique merger of expertise in three domains: political will, business acumen, and musical insight, the “Music as a Natural Resource” project supports, educates, and connects the dots of this movement and seeks to unlock the potential of music to cause meaningful outcomes for society on a global scale.

SoundBites is a songwriting and music technology education initiative that provides intensive instruction and total immersion in music production and songwriting. Manic Moose Music is Joe Carroll's production company. An award-winning composer, songwriter and lyricist, Joe's work is known for its eclecticism and humor. He specializes in music for kids and is Composer/Lyricist for the Emmy nominated Kermit’s Swamp Years (Columbia Tristar/Jim Henson: 2002) and Music Director for the TV series Zoom (PBS/WGBH: 1998-2003). He has written and produced hundreds of songs for TV and film including award-winning projects for Disney, Nickelodeon, PBS, Sesame Workshop and The Jim Henson Company. Initially an advertising music boutique, Manic Moose transitioned to film and television in the 1990s. As a music consultant, he was involved in Nabisco's advertising efforts surrounding the historic "Barbarians at the Gate" buyout. clients: Saatchi & Saatchi, McCann-Erickson and Young & Rubicam. Commercial credits include: Nike, Chrysler, Toyota, MCI, Mattel, Coca-Cola, L’Eggs, Certs, Jell-O, Finesse, Disney, LifeSavers, Avis, USPS.

"Turn Off Your TV and Do It" is a lyric from the opening of Zoom that has come to be the defining motto of the show itself. In addition to co-composing the music and lyrics for the Zoom theme, Carroll has served as Music Director for Zoom since it's inception in 1999. The WGBH show features an all-kid cast tackling science experiments, whipping up recipes, and more. The production process for Zoom is as unique as the show. Each season seven kids are cast from an open call audition process that involves thousands of auditions. In pre-production Joe works alongside a team of science, drama, dance and even cooking experts to prepare the new cast for production and over a period of weeks the group evolves into session-ready studio singers using techniques which Carroll has developed specifically for the show. Zoom has received multiple Emmy Nominations including Outstanding Achievement in Children’s Programs.

Music Director/Composer. A 52-episode TV series introducing children and their families to the English language and American culture. Although the show airs exclusively overseas, the dialog is primarily in English. The concept relies heavily on the use of music, the "universal language", and visual techniques to provide the framework for learning language. Joe co-composed the theme music, more than 50 original songs and over 1000 pieces of original instrumental music. A joint venture of Sesame Workshop and Berlitz International, Sesame English debuted in China and Taiwan in August of 2000 and is now seen in Asia, Europe and Latin America.

Nickelodeon’s Wubbulous World of Dr. Suess , gave Carroll the opportunity to bring his work to a new plateau. As Supervising Sound Editor, he used a variety of groundbreaking techniques to achieve complex integration of dialog, sound effects and music. In addition to serving as musical director for the show, Joe supervised all audio post production in a 12-person music and sound department. The work included supervision of sound effects, dialog editing, music and sound design, foley, dialog replacement and final mix supervision for 20 unique half hour shows. Seuss won Writer’s Guild, Bronze and Silver Telly awards and was nominated for several Emmys including Outstanding Children’s Program.

As a music producer at Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising (1982-1987) Joe earned a reputation for going to great lengths to create the sound for a project, recording in a church in Montreal, a cattle ranch in Oregon and in London at studios made famous by Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles... projects for Toyota, L’eggs, Wendy’s, Helene Curtis, Wrangler, General Mills, Nabisco and Proctor and Gamble. Numerous awards including The London International Advertising award and several Clio nominations.
