My team is involved in learning how people use technology in the office and is responsible for helping guide development of new office furniture with technology in mind and/or help integrate technology into the furniture.I am a hands-on Engineer who uses my technical and administrative skills to oversee and complete engineering projects. The majority part of my work is to help Reserve and Development. I help out with finding what we should be looking into, rapid prototyping, and doing research studies. With this role, I also conceptualize the initial design specifications for each project. This involves working with other departments within the organization to establish user or customer requirements, project costs, and resources. The initial concept is approved by the organization, and the design project is started under my supervision.Along with the initial design of the project, I also worked on the design throughout the project. -
Principal Software ArchitectConvia, Inc. May 2007 - Oct 2010Convia was part of Herman Miller that developed, manufactured and marketed an electrical distribution and control system for commercial real estate projects. As a single building automation platform, it is able to control lighting, A/V, security, and energy management applications. In this position, I was able to work closely with big executives and learned how to develop products for a big corporation. I became very good at taking a product idea and passing the idea through the process of architecture to development to production in a very timely matter. I was also involved very heavily on new inventions on how to manage energy automatically to help save energy. Here is one of the patents that I was heavily involved with. http://www.uspto.gov/web/patents/patog/week36/OG/html/1382-1/US08260471-20120904.html· Architected and designed the Gateway from ground up. The gateway was the central controller which included a firewall/router, web interface, bridging to other protocols like BACNET, HVAC, Lutron, etc, energy management, demand response, and many more features.· Architected the new Convia protocol over the canned network.· Architected the DAS "Data Acquisition Server" for collecting building information so that we can analyze how efficient the building was running.· Invented an active energy manager and architected and designed the gateway to actively adjust the buildings energy consumption while the building is being asked by the Smart Grid to go into an energy demand response.· Came up with the idea of using artificial intelligence code called critters to actively test the user to help save energy and allowing the workers to be productive.· Architected and wrote most of the code that goes into the gateway.

Cto - FounderCortexa Technology Jan 2002 - May 2007Austin, Texas AreaCortexa Technology Inc was a company I created to market a home automation system that was developed completely by me here in Austin, TX. I did the architecture, design, and coding of a gateway from ground up including the automation engine, database, graphical user interface, and hardware. This was a fun experience which gave me the privilege to also learn how to start a company from the ground up and to be a part of every step including marketing, sales, support, creating business relationships, and how to work with executive level people. Our exit strategy was always acquisition, however, it happened sooner than any of us envisioned when we were acquired by a $2B US public company.

Software Design EngineeringNov M/D Totco Jan 2001 - Dec 2001Austin, Texas AreaI was responsible for developing the CAS (Collision Avoidance System) which is a piece of software that is used to monitor the position of the robotic equipment on the offshore drill rigs and make sure that equpment did not collide with each other. This requires some entrusting algorithms to pay attention to the real world physics as the robotic tools may be holding tons of weight, and we had to adjust the speed ahead of time to make sure the robotics could slow down before they collide with each other.I also helped in developing a Tubular Inventory management System that used RFID tags to keep track of drilling pipes that are being used. By knowing what pipes are being used during drill we where able to keep track of how long each drilling pipe is being used, and to help calculate well depth. The fun part about this job was that I was able to travel the world and experience life on a remote and confined environment. It was also a lot of fun to write code that would affect real robotics that is as tall as a five story building.· Responsible for development on CAS (Collision Avoidance System).· Responsible for development TIMS (Tubular Inventory Management System) engine.· Responsible for development of the sequencing engine for oilrig equipment by writing to a PLC.· Responsible for reading a table from SQL, and creating a flat file of information.

Software Design EngineeringMultek Mar 2000 - Jan 2001Austin, Texas AreaMultek was a company that fabricated circuit boards. My responsibles was to designing a system that used a SQL databases to automatically feed each machine the correct project file over the network when the operator typed in the work order number. With this system, we are also able to keep track of jobs and where they are at in the process. The fun part about this job was that I was the only Software Designer. Unfortunately the company decided to completely close the site down that I was at in 2001.Responsible for the full development cycle of all projects, from designing, developing, to implementing.· Responsible for fileserver software that gets data from a SQL database, and sends it to the drill machines in the production area.· Responsible for designing and creating web applications. Crated web applications that let both the engineers, and production to enter their data into the SQL database. Used Visual C++ with the ISAPI interface on an NT Station, with the Apache server.· Created web application for data collection, company phone book, help desk call tracking, request forms with approval cycle, and network status.· Responsible for creating an NT service that waits for a flat file, reads the data in, and put the data into a SQL database. · Duties also included designing and creating various other programs as needed. · Other tools used are Lotus Notes, Source Safe, Apache Server, and PC Anywhere.

Senior System Software Design EngineeringMotorola Dec 1997 - Mar 2000I was responsible for developing system software for the M-Core development system group. I helped in making tools for customers to help them develop code for our M-Core processor. The tools that I helped create were a FLASH programmer, PicoBug (which is an ASCII command line debugger) and many other tools. I also helped in creating some of the drivers for the M-Core's peripherals, and the boot loader code. I also created Factor Acceptances Test code to test everything that was on the development boards including the memory, flash, CPU, and peripherals. With this job, I was able to get down into the details of how a processor worked which required me to write code from assembly language up to C++. Responsible for system software for the M-core development system group.· Duties include designing a program, so the user has a GUI interface to download their code into FLASH or SRAM on the target board. This requires programming the AMD FLASH, talk to the host through a Duart, and designing a communication protocol.· Design and maintain PicoBug, an ASCII debug monitor for the M-core chip.· Work with the firmware for the EBDI (Enhanced Background Debug Interface) that interface with the M-core chip through the ONCE port, which used the 68K microprocessor.· Use Microsoft Visual C++ for the host side, CodeWarrior, Biab Data compiler, and SDS debugger for the C and assembly code on the target side.· Duties include writing designed requirements and design specifications.· Helped setup Windows NT boxes, setting up user accounts, and NT scripting.· Helped with internal Web Site designing, and scripting to support the groups' data.· Work with HP Logic analyzers, HP digital/analog scopes, Meters, HP Protocol analyzer, and Data IO programmer.· Other tools used are Netscape Communicator, MS-Office 97, Adobe Acrobat Distiller, Exceed, Windows NT, and WinCVS. -
Design Engineering / Technician / System AdimCrystal Semiconductor Feb 1992 - Dec 1997I started this job right out of high school. Since I had already created software and created several electronic projects while I was in high school, I was able to start as a technician and as I got more education, I soon exceeded in my positions, I was able to move up to an Engineering position before I graduated from Engineering School. One of my favorite projects was that I created a tester that would test seismic chips. I used an Altera chip to create a one-bit fora output which then got filtered to 60HZ with a very low total harmonic distortion. I was then promoted to help make testing setups for the RMA and Probe Lab. The fun part about this project was that I was able to probe live silicon to help find and debug problems on the silicon. I was able to learn great details about how silicon chips worked. In my spare time, I was able to help the IT group out with setting up the network ranging from Windows to SOLARIS machines.Responsible for the Flat Panel Probe Lab.· Five years of C programming for interfacing with the ISA bus PC boards that I designed. · Work with Logic analyzers, digital/analog scopes, function generators meters, Spectrum analyzers, and Parameter analyzers.· Two years of UNIX, NT and Novell network administration.· Setup user accounts installed SOLARIS 2.6, and various programs that were valuable for the Flat Panel Group.· Installed Windows NT and configuring the network adapters with vast experience in TCP/IP, Binds & DNS servers, adding hardware and installing software on client computers.· Supported 30 users on UNIX and NT.· Programmed UNIX scripts to help out the System Administrator Supervisor.
