Joe.Gerardi@gmail.comApril 2021: Just moved back to the Bay Area in California.DEC-2019 I thought I retired but was asked to be the acting CIO of Seniority, a company that runs retirement communities. That went well for the 15 months it took to stabilize the infrastructure and manage the IT team while they merged with a much larger company that did similar work. Left on good terms and would entertain another like position.May 2017 - Well, after 18 interesting months of telecommuting and traveling to Calfornia I'm exiting ABHOW/Humangood after 12 years of service. Its been a great run and great fun, but that job is really better done locally and I'll be replaced with a more local CIO. I'll be doing a bit of consulting, and perhaps a few projects, but will journey on to other things.It's all good, and I'll update this page as things happen and I get re-engaged in other pursuits. ======I re-read my old Summary and think it’s really terrible. It’s full of lofty words that don’t mean a lot, and reads like 100,000 other Summaries on Linked-In. It didn't tell a story.Here is the story:I love technology in all its forms and I love leading teams.In my years at HP I ran both large and small teams and was a manager for 23 of my 26 years. I worked in everything from telecom, to data security, to operations, to development, to applied R&D, to owning and managing the desktops of more than 110,000 PCs. The jobs were great, and the company was great. The culture changed dramatically and it was time to leave.In my last full time job I played a 12 year role at a non-profit, I’m the CIO. This means I have to keep the business running flawlessly AND I play a large role in deciding what technologies we deploy in our retirement and affordable housing communities to better serve our seniors. They may be robust, or frail, or have dementia. Again I have a team that makes that happen, along with operations and caregivers of course…and the seniors themselves.The budget is smaller, the team is smaller the scope is bigger, and the reward is tremendous. I’m happy with what I've done, and with what I do, and plan on doing this for many more years.Now isn't that better?
