My career started when I left school, I started a level 2 apprenticeship in work based horticulture attending college one day a week whilst working within a small landscaping company named Baglees Landscapes here I gained experience, qualifications and my first salary. This job gave me a great foundation of the work ethic I have today and a good base qualification for my future.After this I started with One landscapes as a horticulture apprentice and started my level 3 apprenticeship in work based horticulture, this job was an important step forward for me I learned and developed my skills in the job becoming extremely competent within all aspects of landscaping and grounds maintenance using ride on machinery, hedge cutters, strimmers, pedestrian mowers, leaf blowers and knapsack sprayers. As well as getting familiar with botanical plant names and pruning requirements and establishing recreational landscaped areas with a combination of on site experience and college based learning. I completed my apprenticeship and was taken on as an operative and shortly after performing well I was promoted to team leader, being responsible for a small team, a van and all the machinery and equipment involved as well as having a work schedule to keep to. This role was great for me it required me to liaise with my supervisors and site managers as well as prioritising work loads and being conscious of time schedules.I currently work as a grounds maintenance and general operative within Cramlington town council here I am part of a team within the town council maintaining the main assets of Cramlington town responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of horticultural areas of grassland, annual planting beds, herbaceous shrub beds, floral towers, hedges and on top of this I have worked with carpet bedding as well as establishing new horticultural areas. I have learned many new skills and developed new qualities working for the council I have had experience in leadership and taking initiative making decisions under pressure and delegating work to team members as well as working within time scales whilst producing a great standard of work.This is a list of all my current skills and qualifications: - GCSE’s - English C- Science C- Maths functional skills qualification through college equivalent to a C - Level 3 city and guilds in work based horticulture - Level 2 city and guilds work based horticulture - PA1 / PA6 spraying qualification- Powered pole pruner - TTS B+E trailer towing competence course
