My journey in cybersecurity began over a decade ago as a SATCOM systems operator-maintainer where I learned the importance of secure and reliable communications in mission success before transitioning to network operations. These roles laid the foundation for my transition into cyber defense, working on the front lines as cyber infrastructure support, cyber defense analyst, and as an incident responder. Each role has taught me the importance of precision, vigilance, and proactive defense in safeguarding critical systems. These experiences have shaped my approach to cybersecurity — where every action directly impacts mission readiness, operational security, and the safety of those depending on our systems to execute their mission.Today, as a Cyber Defense Manager leading a Cybersecurity Operations Center (CSOC), I draw on my technical background to lead a team tasked with defending our organization from threats in the constantly evolving cyber domain. My firsthand experience in identifying vulnerabilities and responding to incidents has enabled me to guide my team with a strategic mindset, ensuring we don’t just react to threats but anticipate them and fortify our defenses accordingly.In a military environment, the stakes are always high, and our mission is clear: protect the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of our systems, so that operations can proceed without disruption. I’ve had the privilege of leading efforts to enhance detection and response capabilities, streamline incident handling, and strengthen the overall resilience of our networks.
