• The assessment and preparation of bills of costs and points of dispute/replies.• The negotiation and settlement of cost claims.• To attend assessment hearings and undertake advocacy in negotiating settlement of claims on behalf of Leeds City Council.• To provide advice and assistance to the substantive file manager in all matters relating to cost or financial monitoring of the case.• To maintain and develop accurate financial reports for legal costs and monitoring.• To evaluate and manage all aspects of outsourced work and call off contracts.• To draft, amend and implement quality procedures as appropriate.• To instruct Counsel and act as lead contact in referrals as necessary.• To undertake legal research as required.

I worked as a legal costs consultant at one of the largest legal costs firms in Australia. During my time there I worked regularly with Slater and Gordon, one of the leading law firms in Australia who are now growing throughout the UK. I also worked on the ‘Black Saturday’ bushfire cases, a multi-million dollar class action for which our firm were the appointed costs consultants. This role gave me experience working on the Claimant side in PI, commercial litigation and family matters.
