For more than twenty years, I have practiced law with intensity, dedication, and responsiveness to my clients’ needs. My client base is and has been wide and diverse—from Fortune 100 companies to local family-owned businesses; from a foreign government to a CSA farmer. At Best & Flanagan, I am fortunate to work with a small but mighty team who care deeply about results and provide top-notch client service. I am the former chair of Best & Flanagan’s litigation section and currently serve on its Board of Directors.My primary practice areas are commercial and employment litigation, and HR and employment law advice and counseling. • I work with my corporate clients to help them comply with the myriad of federal, state, and local laws impacting the workplace—including performance management, discrimination, retaliation, leaves of absence, disability and medical accommodations, compensation issues, and employment contracts. • I also work with senior executives to help them negotiate their employment contracts upon hire or separation from a company, including protecting their equity in the company. • When workplace disputes cannot be resolved, I vigorously defend my clients in the courtroom and before governmental agencies. Sometimes this means an early settlement through direct settlement talks or mediation. Other times this means litigation or arbitration through dispositive motions and trial. In addition to defending all types of employment claims, I have deep expertise in representing clients in injunction matters involving business torts, trade secrets, non-competes, non-solicits, and other restrictive covenants. In recent years, I have helped corporate and executive clients defeat motions for injunctions brought by UnitedHealth, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, Nevro, and Marvin Windows. • Companies also call on me to conduct sensitive workplace investigations. I am one of a handful of investigators in the Midwest who can interview witnesses in Spanish. I thrive on helping my clients resolve thorny issues so they can move on to the more important things in life. Over the years, I’ve found that the best way to cultivate trust and build relationships with others is by working with them directly, being available for them when they need it, and getting to know them and their businesses. Finally, I believe strongly in the importance of giving back to the community and the legal profession. I work hard to mentor the next generation of legal professionals and provide them with opportunities to advance their careers, just as others did for me.
