I interned for Dr Stelios Orfanos while he treated and followed-up with patients who suffered from affective disorders. In this internship, I was able to see how a psychiatrist treats patients with both Bipolar Disorder and Depression. Furthermore, I was able to sit in group sessions to provide support for people with Borderline Personality Disorder and learn some of the techniques used to help and counsel patients with these illnesses.

I was in charge of preparing data for analysis at the IMPROVE-2 trials. I suggested forms of grouping and analysing data for the research. Furthermore, I worked alongside clinical psychologist and researchers with clinical and confidential data. It was a great experience that allowed me to get insight into how research is performed at a clinical level, and helped me develop key research and communication abilities with a clinical team.

As a teaching assistant, I had the chance to help run Spanish speaking classes at the University of Exeter once a week for two academic terms. This required me to communicate with the students and the teacher, as well as occasionally preparing and giving the class. I also planned certain activities alongside the teacher to enhance the students’ learning, and assisted in providing a fun and productive learning environment.
