The RTC was established by Congress in 1989 to resolve and liquidate the assets of failed savings and loan institutions by the agency’s sunset of Dec. 1996. • Headed governmental and public relations for the Dallas Regional Office of the agency – which oversaw the sale of over $81 billion in failed thrift assets. • Acted as congressional liaison for the agency in its Washington, D.C. office. • Key responsibilities/accomplishments: 1) directed all high-level communications between the agency and congress, the media and the public, 2) Created and directed outreach programs to inform congressional representatives, state and local government and community and business organizations of the agency progress in meeting legislative mandates, 3) Assisted in successfully advocating agency’s position on several critical pieces of state and federal legislation, including the RTC Restructuring Act of 1991 and the RTC Completion Act of 1993, which provided $43 billion in agency funding.
