I have worked in post production for over twenty years now, starting in tape duplication and grading before working in audio post production then full post for long form broadcast (documentaries, light entertainment and drama) and short form (on-air promos, continuity and advertising). In 2011 I moved across to working in international adaptation for commercials, being thrown into the deep end by working on a major European campaign, where, with three other producers, over 1200 commericals were delivered in three months.Working in international adaptation after so long working in traditional post houses gave me an opportunity to learn new skills as well as using the experience that I had gained. This was incredibly exciting and over the last nine years I have been able to use these new learnings to not just work on the post production aspect, but also be involved in speaking to clients either to advise them on how best to produce a campaign suitable for use across other regions or to try and win new business. One of the myths that I feel should be busted is that adaptation work is less creative than other areas. In my experience it is a constantly changing and challenging area of post production as briefs can be as simple as adding static text to having to completely re-edit, replace elements with 3D models or change music to fit with the original pictures.As well as this I also created and presented introductory training courses for internal members of staff who may not have knowledge of what is required for creating and adapting moving image (for broadcast, online, DOOH, cinema etc.). These sessions were well received and I got a lot out of them (as much as anything overcoming a fear of speaking in front of a group). I also spent four months in Chennai in India helping to train a team of producers there to take high volume projects which was an expericence I will not forget.
