Working at the original Hopcat I learned a lot about marketing as the brand grew tremendously while I worked there and is one of the fastest growing in the restaurant industry today. They did an excellent job of marketing through customer experience, building a cool and unique brand, and using PR to get free media exposure. We rarely ever advertised but never had a night where there wasn't a wait, usually 1 hour or more! Working as a server I led the company in client compliments and was constantly working collaboratively, in a fast paced work environment with tight deadlines where strong prioritization of tasks was essential to deliver optimal client experience.

While working at Old Chicago I learned about marketing through loyalty programs and e-mail marketing. This still works today, but consumer studies show that brand loyalty is lower than ever as the internet makes shopping around too easy. It is now more than ever important for businesses to focus on making sure your customer experience is second to none, giving the end user every reason in the world to brag about you to their social circle.

While working at BJ's I learned about marketing through community outreach and charities. They were extremely effective and it played a large role in their booming business. Community marketing will never die, and is a great way to engage your tribe and build a community connection to your brand.

Went from moving to a new town and knowing no one to bringing 100-200 people per night out to various bars as a club promoter, mostly though social media strategy. I didn't know it at the time but I was social media marketing before it even existed. Additionally I learned a lot about organizing large events that generate buzz and word of mouth marketing during my time as a promoter.
