We provide services to vulnerable populations through: 1) Referrals for immigration legal services, 2) Educational development, 3) Life-skills and 4) Community Development.We empower vulnerable immigrants to identify resources in their quest for legal status in the USA, we provide access to community instruction for the English language, we support children and youth with homework tutoring, and we coordinate community projects that include neighborhood development, positive law enforcement relationships and disaster response.Having recently completed an important project with the Office of Refugee Resettlement under a 1-year "urgent and compelling" grant to help serve Unaccompanied Children, I was responsible for receiving, interpreting and implementing federal policy into practical outcomes.The Refugio project was based on the principles of dignity, respect, and love for children – all of whom are created in the image of God. We provided safe shelter, education and life-skills training for vulnerable, unaccompanied children who were in the transitional care of the federal Office of Refugee Settlement.The Refugio Advocacy campaign’s principles are to ensure that vulnerable children, youth and adults receive humane treatment, appropriate legal representation, and advocates Biblical principles for legislation that will address the root causes of the humanitarian crisis in which they find themselves.
