• Acting as the sole resident diplomatic liaison between the European Commission's (EC) Secretariat-General and the Bulgarian Government (directly working with the Prime Minister, President, Minister of Justice, Minister of Interior)• Providing the EC with (political) briefings on developments, related to anti-corruption, organized crime and judicial reform• Gathering and analyzing information from a wide variety of sources (including local and international NGO representatives, practitioners, experts, EU Member States Ambassadors)• Drafting the official bi-annual EC reports, assessing Bulgaria's progress under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (established upon Bulgaria's accession to the EU to monitor deficiencies in the field of Justice and Home Affairs)• Through diplomacy guiding the Bulgarian government to fulfil the Justice and Home Affairs criteria, established by the EC

• Advising and reporting to the EC on Bulgaria's pre-accession progress in the field of rule of law (adoption of relevant legislation, police reform, meeting human rights criteria, police violence, THB, border control, organized crime etc.)• Reporting to the EC on key political developments in Bulgaria• Managing multi-million euro Phare projects• Acting counterpart to EU Member States embassies• Acting counterpart to police liaison officers• Representing the EC in various public events

• Implementing cross-country projects on ‘good governance’ in Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, FYR Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, Romania and Russia• Coordinating and providing guidance to participating NGOs• Maintaining close relations with the national parliaments of the participating countries• Drafting programme proposals, for funding by the EC and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs• Planning and organizing large international conferences

• Implementing and coordinating Dutch and EU funded programmes in Bulgaria, Romania, Russia and Ukraine aimed at assisting the Parliaments of these countries• Organising conferences and other events and drafting their programmes
