*AEM is the parent company of Earth NetworksI am responsible for the day-to-day management and security of our large scale, multi-region, multi-vendor cloud infrastructure, primarily utilizing AWS but also running some services in MS Azure. Priorities include focusing on the availability, maintenance, enhancements, security, modernization, and scalability of all cloud-based IAAS that run our products and services. My current team consists of system and database administrators that build, monitor, secure, and support a highly scalable operating environment using AWS and Microsoft Azure cloud services as well as multiple PaaS and SaaS systems.

Recent Accomplishments:Saved $124,000 on yearly AWS spend with right-sizing instances and better managing of DynamoDB tables..Architected a system for monitoring our mapping system by having a Lambda function export Dynamo data to an S3 bucket in xml format that is then ingested by our monitoring system. This will allow easy monitoring of hundreds of layers every five minutes.Designed and implemented the company's data retention policy in S3 and Glacier allowing savings of up to $60,000/year.Led the migration of 1,000 physical servers and multiple networks to the Amazon Cloud environment utilizing DevOps and backend AWS servicesLed the effort to separate WeatherBug (consumer business) related servers and services from the EarthNetworks enterprise business, without disruption to either business. This 1.5 year project saw the separation and removal of over 500 instances, 100's of Dynamo tables, Elasticache clusters, s3 buckets and several coordinated DNS changes .Responsible for all aspects of the existing cloud environment, including uptime, cost and code deployments. Daily interaction with S3, Route 53, ElastiCache, CloudFront, EC2, Load Balancing, Auto-Scaling, Code Deploy and many other AWS services.

During this time at EarthNetworks, I managed our datacenter operations before migrating our systems to the cloud. The server and equipment footprint was spread across 4 different datacenters, consisting of over 1,000 servers and over 40 pieces of network gear (switches, routers, F5 load balancers, etc.), as well as multiple EMC SANs with fiber channel switching. With our setup, we handled over a billion network transactions per month.Directed 10-15 (staffing varied) people in our former datacenter environment as Director of Datacenter Operations (later as Director of IT). This environment supported over 30 million users with billions of requests per month.Established 24 x 7 monitoring of the data center and AWS Cloud environments utilizing new toolsand 3rd party vendors. This included on-boarding an off-shore NOC team for non-business hour monitoring.

I came on board about a year after the company was founded. As a small startup, I was involved in many various areas of day to day operations, including: Sales, Marketing, Training, Technical Support, Help Desk, etc., As the business grew, I moved more into an IT role, with my first big task being the creation of a Microsoft Access database that would be used by accounting, sales, shipping and support . This database was used by the business for approximately 13 years before finally moving everything over to SalesForce.In addition to all the various responsibilities during this time frame, I was also responsible for the uptime and data collection for the nationwide network of weather sensors that the company was launching. This included our first experiences with the Internet, ISPs, firewalls, T-1 lines, servers and modems. This helped set the stage for our work in various data centers.
