Serving as a utility engineer on GTL projects, I played a pivotal role in managing GTL utility models and conducting comprehensive studies to optimize various aspects of the process.This role included comparing water cooling versus air cooling systems for different geographical locations, ensuring efficiency across diverse environments. Additionally, I led main process drive configuration studies for critical components such as Air Separation Units (ASUs) and Fischer-Tropsch reactors, evaluating the feasibility of different drive options including S/H steam, electric, and saturated steam drives.As part of the GTL Task Team, tasked with enhancing Sasol's GTL offerings to meet internal financial targets, I contributed extensively to optimizing the GTL flow sheet. This involved conducting utility studies encompassing process drive configurations, gas turbine utilization for steam superheating, power-neutral and power-export scenarios, as well as evaluating air-cooled versus water-cooled configurations and designing water systems for Zero Liquid Effluent Discharge (ZLED) and discharge.My responsibilities extended to the design of utility and offsite sections, encompassing tasks such as generating mass balances, preparing detailed data sheets for cost estimation, optimizing plot plans, and conducting economic evaluations for all proposed options. Utilities Process Engineer At Sasol Group TechnologySasol Jun 2009 - Jun 2012SasolburgAs a Process Design Engineer within the Process Design Utility group, I undertook diverse projects aimed at enhancing utility systems and addressing critical process challenges.One significant project involved the Sasolburg utility expansion program, where I served as the lead engineer for the evaporation crystallizer plant for the demineralized water plant effluent. Later, I assumed the role of the evaporative crystallizer lead in Project WaTER (Waste Treatment and Effluent Recycle). Project WaTER focused on treating ash transport water to achieve demineralized water quality. Collaborating with Richard Paxton and Associates, as well as Royal Haskoning as contractors, we developed innovative solutions to achieve project objectives efficiently and effectively.Additionally, I provided support to the Secunda facility on the Gas Turbine Heat Recovery Steam Generator (GT HRSG) project.
