  • Switchdin
    Founder
    Switchdin Dec 2013 - Oct 2014
    Newcastle, Australia
Previously at SwitchDin I helped to build and architect a real-time processing platform, making it truly scalable and allowing us to manage millions of remote PV installations.SwitchDin was established in late 2011 and grew out of the experience of founder Dr Andrew Mears. He realised from his work in Australia, UK, US and in many developing countries, that reliable clean decentralised energy services are required to transform the way we live and work and this is the key to future economic growth and prosperity. In late 2013 myself and another co-founder, Gavin, joined as the technical co-founders and SwitchDin was really born.SwitchDin secured $5 million in funding from Q CELLS in 2020.Eventually I moved on to another startup, Wink Reports, to take on the CEO position.

  • Skillflip
    Ceo
    Skillflip Feb 2013 - Oct 2013
    Newcastle, Australia
Skillflip was a marketplace bringing together people who are passionate about sharing their skills, and those who are eager to learn something new and exciting. We made it easy for anyone to list their own class and present it in a stylish and beautiful fashion to the Skillflip community. It's all about being social, fun, and learning something in the process.I was co-founder and CEO of Skillflip with all the duties that involved. However, after 6 months of operations the founders decided to not continue with the business due to lack of traction and a change in circumstances.
  • Promax
    Manager Application Development
    Promax Dec 2008 - Aug 2012
    Australia
Promax is a software company providing trade promotion management and optimisation software to manufacturers in the fast moving consumer goods sector. The software is used by manufacturers such as Kraft, L'Oreal, Dial, Kimberly-Clark, Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer to plan all their marketing promotions.Promax was acquired by Wipro in 2012 for $35 million, after which I decided to leave and found my own startup. The Promax software uses mathematical and statistical models to predict scenarios, sales volumes and profits by analysing historical sales data and transactions. While employed there I was the manager of the development team reporting directly to the CEO. I had 20 developers (three of them team leaders) reporting to me. I was responsible for overseeing everything that happened to the software and making sure releases and features were delivered as promised. I took an active part in the software development by leading design and architect sessions, approving code reviews, and doing software development when needed.
  • Tibra Capital
    Senior Software Developer
    Tibra Capital Jan 2007 - Nov 2008
Tibra is a high frequency derivatives trading company. I worked on all aspects of their automated trading software platform by implementing market connections, trading strategies and abstraction interfaces.I worked on just about every aspect of the software during my time with Tibra, but I did have ownership of two long-term projects. I initially did a six month long project that included the full design, implementation and testing of a spread trading strategy. The second project I worked on was a direct market link to the Xetra exchange which involved matching our internal object abstractions to the API and protocol provided by the exchange.During this time I've also done work on the core routing system as well as helped with optimisation and several refactoring efforts as it was needed.
  • Team Mortgage
    Director And Founder
    Team Mortgage 2005 - 2006
Team Mortgage is an e-commerce company generating internet leads for the mortgage industry. We required an advanced back-end platform for collecting and managing these leads and for distributing it out to our broker network. As the technology founder, I was in charge of designing the system as well as its implementation. All the initial design work and specifications were done by me. I also oversaw the subsequent programming effort and led a small team of outsourced overseas programmers to the successful launch of the system. The system consisted of several components, ranging from a complete CRM system written from scratch in PHP, to an automated email and sms notification system. The system also included an advanced filtering mechanism for automatically sorting incoming leads from the database to brokers based on customisable broker profiles. The platform was launched successfully in October 2005. I was also responsible for 2 major updates and revisions up until April 2006.
  • Singtel Optus
    Network Engineer
    Singtel Optus Mar 2005 - May 2005
I was contracted by Optus to do planning work for their 3G mobile phone network roll-out. My duties as a contractor consisted of verifying and planning network capacity and commissioning new traffic paths. The project was extremely high-pressure and time-sensitive. To achieve a smooth roll-out required liaising with several other internal teams and making the appropriate design decisions based on their input.
  • Dilithium Networks
    Design Engineer
    Dilithium Networks Aug 2004 - Feb 2005
I was involved in two roles within Dilithium:The first was doing active development on their 3G protocol stack product. The stack was written in object oriented C++ and supported the H.323, SIP, H.324 and 3G-324M protocols. It was available for a multitude of platforms including Windows (32 and 64bit), WinCE, Solaris, Linux, PalmOS and other custom embedded processors. My duties included maintenance, adding more functionality and enhancing the overall standards compliancy of the product. Along with this I helped with the system design and optimising the architecture for easy maintainability and porting to new platforms. My other role was within the Professional Services Division. This involved dealing very directly with our customers and customising solutions to their needs. Typical customers included 3G handset manufacturers such as Samsung and Datang, and network operators such as Vodaphone. Apart from the very technical skills of integrating custom pieces of real-time software, it required good people skills for negotiating and working directly with the customer’s engineering team.
  • Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise
    Design Engineer
    Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise 2001 - 2004
The final year of my employment at Alcatel was spent working in Next Generation Networks. I was doing development work and providing deep-level support for Alcatel’s Softswitch solution, the Alcatel 5020. This encompassed the interworking between the gatekeeper, media gateways, signalling gateways, AAA servers and various user agents (both SIP and H323). Along with this I designed and implemented various customer specific modifications such as billing systems and network status monitoring and reporting scripts.I was also responsible for evaluating and integrating equipment from other third party vendors such as Convedia, Sylantro, Pingtel and Cisco into voice and data IP solutions for our customers. These solutions ranged from IP-peering and PSTN toll-bypass configurations to full end-to-end carrier grade voice over IP implementations.
  • Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise
    Development Engineer
    Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Dec 1998 - Jan 2001
I was responsible for maintaining and developing certain software building blocks for Alcatel's Litespan 1540 access product. These blocks are maintained in object oriented C++ and more specifically consist of the Craft Terminal Front-end and Narrowband Leased Lines segment. I was involved in the introduction of various new features to the Family Release 2.1 delivery of the product. Amongst these were a sub-rate leased line card, an Optical Transport Card and a Frame Relay Server Card. I also implemented and tested large portions of the Performance Monitoring building block. I was also responsible for the initial testing of the access node software on the Solaris platform, before it was tried in the hardware environment, and am thus very familiar with the overall building process, the other building blocks and the Craft Terminal interface. My duties included having to debug all errors and then recommending solutions to the maintainers of the corresponding software blocks.
