I started as a Senior Scientist in Experimental Nephrology, and became head of the Nephrology Research Laboratory of the Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen in 2003. Focus in this period was to revive the research in the lab and grant acquisition.

Amsterdam Area, Netherlands

•I studied regulation of gene expression regulated by the, so called, Polycomb Group proteins. •I was the first to establish a relation of PcG with epigenetics, as was published in high-ranking Journals as Nature Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology. •I developed a selection method for chromatin boundaries that could shield transgenes from higher order chromatin regulation. This latter work formed in a later stage the basis of the founding of a biotech company, Chromagenics, that was again acquired by Crucell later. •This productive Post-doc period was characterized by a nice and inspiring cooperation with 3 Phd-students and a technician, and other staff. •General lab management and teaching were part of the job.
