Port Of Spain, Trinidad And Tobago

As senior adviser for regional partnerships for UNAIDS, Port of Spain, Trinidad &Tobago, I led, managed and coordinated strategic partnerships for an expanded response to AIDS at Caribbean regional and country levels and provided managerial support, technical advice and guidance to a number of UNAIDS country offices in the Caribbean. Major activities were organizing and giving remarks for launch of Caribbean Coalition for Social Justice at Caribbean Conference on HIV and AIDS, Nassau, Bahamas November 2011; initiating renewed discussions with Jamaican clergy on a stronger national response to HIV in March 2012; supporting Caribbean delegation to International AIDS Conference, Washington, D.C. July 2012; developing community education program to strengthen public support for human rights and offering introductory remarks at ceremony for Prime Minister of St. Kitts & Nevis awards ceremony, October 2012; organizing and giving remarks at Trinidad and Tobago Faith-Based Organization conferences on recommitment to a stronger HIV response, Port of Spain, December 2011, October, November and December 2012.

As head of the Washington office for UNAIDS - the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS - represented UNAIDS to the United States Government and the public policy community based in Washington, D.C. and led an office of four professionals who provided educational and technical expertise on the global response to the AIDS pandemic. Major activities were organizing US Congressional staff delegation site visits to Botswana, Tanzania and Kenya in 2008, 2009 and 2010; serving as focal point in Washington for the US Government sponsored HIV/AIDS Implementers’ Meetings in Kigali, Rwanda June 2007; in Kampala, Uganda June 2008 and in Windhoek, Namibia June 2009; successful legislative and regulatory removal of ban on persons with HIV from entering the US; provided consultation to Pan American Health Organization for WHO Guidelines on HIV Treatment and Prevention for MSM and Transgendered persons, Washington, D.C. April 2010; gave remarks at US Congressional Briefing on Post-Earthquake Reconstruction of the HIV response in Haiti, Washington, D.C. April 2010; at the Women Deliver Conference, Washington, D.C. June 2010 organized CNN interview for Annie Lennox and UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibe; served on the UNADS delegation to the International AIDS Conference, Vienna, Austria July 2010; at the American Bar Association AIDS Coordinating Committee delivered remarks on criminalization of HIV transmission, Washington, D.C. October 2010; and served on the steering committee for the White House Meeting on the Global Initiative on Faith, Health and Development, Washington, D.C. November 2010.

As head of HP’s Washington office, led the US federal government affairs team of lobbyists, consultants and subject matter experts in shaping US-based international and federal public policy affecting HP’s interests. Developed advocacy programs for the technology industry. Conducted media relations to public policy reporters and supported CEO visits to Washington. Served on Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Business Council for its Corporate Equality Index and Information Technology Industry Council government relations committee. Major activities were speaking as a panelist at the International AIDS Conference at the Global Business Coalition on HIV and AIDS satellite session in Barcelona, Spain in July 2002; serving on the U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary’s Fact-finding delegation to Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia for global AIDS programs in December 2003 and offering testimony to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs at its hearing on U.S. and E.U. cooperation on regulating emerging technologies in May 2005.

Led state and local government affairs function and its site public affairs managers. Established a separate government affairs business development function for the state and local government market. Consolidated the function to make it more effective in sites where HP has an economic presence.

Tacoma, Wa

Managed state government affairs and media relations for a privately held forest and paper products company in the Pacific Northwest. Supervised lobbyists and public relations consultants involved in media and community relations.

San Jose And Santa Clara Ca

Managed state government affairs for the manufacturer of the U.S. Army's Bradley Fighting Vehicle. Managed U.S. congressional district-level lobbying program for defense appropriations and environmental issues. Supervised community relations and employee communications functions.

San Leandro And Sacramento, Ca

Lobbied the California Legislature on behalf of Caterpillar and its dealer network on transportation funding matters. Handled some community and media relations.
