As a Lead Pharmacist, I manage branch site workflow, delegating priorities to pharmacists and technicians. I monitor our electronic dashboard as well as feedback from employees to make judgment calls on what tasks to prioritize and who best to delegate to. The team I manage fills over 3000 scripts a day during our shift, and with shifting daily and weekly targets based on the resources we have on-hand, I stay flexible while also addressing the needs of each team member and department. Outside of this core duty, I also wear many hats. From a clinical perspective, I examine literature documentation of clinical studies for doses outside of standard therapeutic protocols and determine therapeutic interchange. I also contact nurses and physicians at facilities to verify correct medication dosing, frequency, patient allergies, and any other clinical issues. Specific clinical data I frequently review include vancomycin patient trough levels, hemoglobin levels for patients on erythropoietin stimulating agents, and white blood cell count and ANC for patients taking clozapine. On the pharmacy logistics end, I also coordinate with client nursing home facilities and medication couriers for medication delivery, help manage COVID vaccine daily clinic roll-outs and coordinate supply deliveries. During heavy workflow, I also jump in side-by-side with technicians, packaging pills and bulk items or operating the various pharmacy fill robots. Pharmacy has always been a team effort, and I work alongside some great team members.
