I’m an engineer; I’ve always been an engineer. I like to say that I’ve been taking things apart since I was 5, putting things back together since I was 9, and they actually started working again since I was 12. I love to find out how things work and fix them when they don’t. I’m also passionate about seeing a problem and creating something to solve that problem, whether it's making more space in my college dorm room – I built a loft and put the beds 5’ off the floor so the desks could go underneath – or keeping my ferns alive when I bring them inside for the winter – some 3D printing, a small pump, a bucket of water, a microcontroller and programming keeps them watered when I forget. Since my interest in how things work included the human body, I became a biomedical engineer. I spent the first part of my career in a 400 bed community hospital, learning how all sorts of things worked: calibrating them, repairing them, and making sure they stayed within government and industry guidelines. Human EKGs and EKG machines, ultrasounds and ultrasound machines, defibrillators, lasers, and linear accelerators - it was the coolest job I could imagine. I’ve been factory trained and certified in over 25 types of medical equipment.In 2000 I took this experience and knowledge to an independent service organization and adapted healthcare technology management to the research equipment field. I built the company's single mid-Atlantic client into a significant region, comprising over 30% of the company’s revenue, and rose to my current position of Regional Director of Service Operations.When not at work, I might be hacking a bathroom scale and hooking it to a microcontroller and pump so my winemaking hobby has consistent and automated bottling. Possibly you could find me volunteering at my local community theatre, building sets, creating special effects and even acting in their productions. I might be volunteering on the build crew of my local Habitat for Humanity organization, or perhaps be at home gardening or learning to play another musical instrument. (over the years I’ve learned to play six – seven if you count the kazoo) I look forward to the future as there are so many cool things to come.
