John has over Fifteen (15) years experience in development planning and has a passion for mainstreaming cross-cutting issues such as Gender, HIV/AIDS and Climate Change in development. John is currently working as Environment and Social Safeguards specialist for the PPCR and TRALARD Projects funded by the World Bank.John worked as Program Manager for the UN Joint Program on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction. This involved coordinating efforts and contributions of seven (7) United Nations Agencies and ten (10) Government Ministries and agencies to the climate change response.Previously, John worked as Grants and Decentralised Response Coordinator at the National AIDS Council (NAC). At NAC, John was extensively involved in the development of National AIDS Strategic Frameworks and also supported the development of City level HIV/AIDS Strategic Plans. He was also involved in building capacity of key Local Government players in leadership for good governance in the provision of HIV/AIDS related social services. He also supported the design of a Community Sub Granting Mechanism aimed at supporting small community groups implement high impact HIV/AIDS interventions.John was also involved in a regional project of Integrating HIV/AIDS, Gender and Human Rights in Capital Projects using Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) as an entry point. He worked closely with the National Road Fund Agency, Roads Development Agency and the Zambia Environmental Management Agency in ensuring value for money for the environment and health component of road contracts. As a result of having worked at NAC and the UN Joint Programme on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction, John is well acquainted with working in complex multi-sectoral and multi level environments.John also worked as District Planning Officer for seven years, a position that helped underpin his multi-dimensional comprehension of development. John was involved in the design and country-wide rollout of the SOMAP Project. John was part of the implementation team for an AfDB funded Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project. John was also involved in the Road Sector Support Programme supported by DANIDA which had trunk, feeder and Community Access Improvement Components.John was also involved in the CBNRM Mumbwa Project were he was co-Project Manager. The Project grounded his understanding of the critical role that local community structures play in sustainable resource management and the importance of integrated participatory planning approaches in land use planning.
