John A. Bannerman was born in Chadron, Nebraska, in 1947, grew up in Grants, New Mexico, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of New Mexico in 1969 and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1972. He was an editor of the New Mexico Law Review and the Natural Resources Journal in 1971 and 1972. Following graduation from law school he served four years as a Navy Judge Advocate. Bannerman is a member of the State Bar of New Mexico, a former Director of the Trial Practice Section, a former Chair and Director New Mexico Health Law Section, and Past Chair and a member of the New Mexico Lawyer Professional Liability and Insurance Committee. He belongs to the American Health Lawyers Association, the New Mexico Defense Lawyers Association, The ABA Health Law Section, the ABA Lawyer Professional Liability Committee, and the Defense Research Institute. He has been rated “av” by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory for over 20 years. During his career, Bannerman has appeared in courts and agencies throughout New Mexico in the areas of health law, environmental law, and employment law, and has handled other complex litigation involving insurance, product liability, and professional liability cases. He has extensive experience speaking at local, regional and national events. Bannerman has been listed in Best Lawyers in America from 1993 to present, Who’s Who in American Law from 1992 to present, and Super Lawyers of the Southwest. He received the Zenith Award from the Continuing Legal Education Center of the State Bar of New Mexico for his CLE presentations on Professionalism. On January 1, 2017 he retired from the firm and became an inactive member of the NM Bar Association.
