I represent companies in the health care, financial services, and technology sectors, among others, in a range of complex civil litigation, government investigations and enforcement actions, and internal corporate reviews. I have defended actions arising under the False Claims Act (FCA), the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Consumer Financial Protection Act and the Commodity Exchange Act. I also have assisted clients in investigations, inquiries, and enforcement matters conducted by, among other entities, the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Deposit Insurance Commission, and state enforcement agencies. I have practiced before federal trial and appellate courts across the United States.Representative matters include: – defending multiple entities in a nationwide network of affiliated skilled nursing facilities in post-trial motions practice overturning jury verdicts under the FCA totaling several hundred million dollars; – successfully achieving summary judgment for a medical device manufacturer and supplier against an FCA suit alleging that the company fraudulently sought Medicare reimbursement by misapplying billing codes in claims submitted to the government; and – representing a debt relief services provider in a series of consumer protection enforcement proceedings initiated by federal and state authorities.In my pro bono practice, I am co-leader of the Housing Impact Project team in Skadden’s Washington, D.C. office, in which I have represented more than a dozen low-income tenants in eviction and other housing-related matters before the District of Columbia courts and administrative agencies. I also regularly volunteer at the D.C. Superior Court’s Landlord-Tenant Resource Center.
