John currently works at goBILDA, providing research and development skills to produce products for FIRST robotics teams, makers, and hobbyists. He collaborates with his team to develop high-quality parts and components for inventors all around the world.John has several years of experience in CAD/CAM software such as SOLIDWORKS, Onshape, Fusion 360, and Meshmixer, and he uses these software packages regularly to develop custom solutions for any project.John previously worked at The Orthopaedic Center (TOC) in Huntsville, Alabama as an Orthotics & Prosthetics (O&P) Technician. He worked closely with TOC's physicians and O&P practitioners to design and fabricate custom orthotic braces for patients who require a custom bracing solution. He also aided and assisted in the fabrication of custom Prosthetic limbs and related components.At TOC, he utilized LIDAR/IR-based sensors to generate accurate 3D topographical patient models of affected limbs/spines and sent these models to fabrication facilities without the need for casting.He has 12+ years of direct engineering experience participating in the FIRST Tech Challenge robotics program - 5 years as a student, and 7 years as an adult mentor. During his time as a student, John was the Engineering Lead and the robot driver/operator, designing and building competitive and iterative robots that could perform complex tasks quickly, both autonomously and user-controlled. As a mentor, John continues to teach electronics, physics, engineering, and design principles to students on his FTC Team and to students around the world.
