Dr Baxter had a 35 year career at Bishop Technology Group Limited involved in product and process R&D, IP management, marketing of automotive steering technology and international IP licensing. John was the inventor or co-inventor for many of Bishop’s patents families, and has authored and co-authored numerous published technical papers in the field of automotive steering and the related field of vehicle dynamics. John left Bishop at the end of 2009 and is now a Senior Commercial Counsel at Baxter IP Patent Attorneys, specialising in IP commercialisation and, in particular, the structuring of patents to maximize the commercial value of the IP. Dr Baxter is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology & Engineering (ATSE), Engineers Australia, and SAE Australasia. His recent engineering interests have involved the evolution of PHEVs and EVs, and the architectural requirements of the electrical grid to enable charging of these vehicles, and the electrical integration with rooftop PV and stationary batteries. He is a member of the ATSE's Energy Forum and assisted with ATSE’s submission to the Australian Government's Energy White Paper (Issues Paper) in 2014, the ATSE Symposium 2015 entitled 'Smart Grids - Pathway to our Energy Future', the ATSE Symposium 2016 entitled 'Beyond Coal - What will Power NSW?' and the ATSE Symposium 2017 entitled 'The NEM After the Finkel Review'.
