Ever since I saw Kurzgesagt’s YouTube video on fusion energy in 2016, I knew it was what I wanted to do in my life. A near limitless source of energy, with practically no safety risk or pollutants, and all it needed was for the most brilliant minds on Earth to crack the secret to making it viable. It seemed right up my alley. To me though, it isn’t solving the current clean energy crisis that makes it so intriguing. We have nuclear, solar, wind, geothermal, all of which are viable sources, albeit all with unique cons as well. What makes fusion so important in my mind is its implications on the future expansion of humanity into a complete Tier I civilization and beyond. With fusion, we will be able to expand into the stars, achieve scientific accomplishments we could never before have dreamed of, and reach closer to our fullest potential as a species.
