While this job relied primarily on my writing and editing skills, I also used my time at the Aerospace Center to learn about digital engineering, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and other engineering concepts that intersect accounting practice. I look forward to using this background when I return to an accounting role to improve costing at a space or other technology firm.I helped the Aerospace Center start its communications team: creating a company voice and style, standard operating procedures, internal and external newsletters, and a document management system. I edit academic journal submissions and grant proposals for the Aerospace Center's affiliated faculty. I was the lead writer and editor of the proposal that won the Aerospace Center one of ten $160 million dollar grants from the National Science Foundation's Regional Innovation Engine program.

I performed writing, editing, and communication roles at this economics think tank. In the process of doing this I learned about locating and using economic data and how organizations can use that information to inform business decisions.

I started my career in publishing as the Director of Marketing and Publicity for Cinco Puntos Press, an internationally renowned publishing company headquartered in El Paso, Texas. Under my leadership and in various roles, I helped its revenues increase by 8-10% a year. As the company grew, I took on increasing responsibilities to include editorial and office management duties. As we hired additional employees, I became the Chief Executive and Financial Officer, responsible for business development, project and financial management.
