As an adult outpatient therapist at the Aurora Mental Health Center, I carry a caseload of 60-90 clients who present with a wide variety of mental health concerns. In addition to providing regular individual and group counseling services, I also conduct intake evaluations with new clients in order to address and intervene in key areas. As a member of the Transition Age Youth Initiative, I also work with a large number of adolescent clients who are at risk for a variety of concerns including homelessness, failing in school, and hospitalization. Finally, as a member of the Refugee Task Force, I help refugee clients who have recently emigrated to the United States in managing mental health concerns and connecting to valuable and necessary resources.

Springfield, Illinois

As a Master's level intern at Mental Health Centers of Central Illinois (MHCCI), I offer charity care counseling to adult clients who are unable to otherwise afford therapy. As an individual counselor, I see around twenty clients per week who present with a wide variety of mental health issues. Additionally, as a member of the Psychiatric Response Team, I conduct crisis assessments at local hospitals for patients who present with psychiatric issues such as suicidal ideation or acute psychotic episodes. I also conduct walk-in assessments for clients in need of mental health services.

Bloomington/Normal, Illinois Area

Chestnut Health Systems (CHS) is a substance abuse treatment center located in Bloomington, IL. The Discovery Unit is a 90-day residential treatment unit at CHS for adolescent boys with substance abuse issues as well as a variety of mental and behavioral health diagnoses. Residential counselors on the Discovery Unit provide counseling to these adolescents via group therapy and on an individual basis. Additionally, residential counselors interact with these adolescents throughout the day, insuring that they complete assigned chores, treatment assignments, and a variety of other tasks. Residential counselors consistently interact with clients, providing counseling and building therapeutic rapport on and off the unit. As a lead residential counselor, I was also responsible for supervising other residential counselors, administering medication to clients, and collaborating with local law enforcement, probation officers, parents of clients, and supervisory staff to determine the appropriate course of therapy for clients.

Bloomington/Normal, Illinois Area

PATH is a crisis hotline located in Bloomington, IL. PATH also answers for the National Suicide Hotline and provides a free 411 service for the Bloomington area. Training for the position of phone room volunteer consisted of learning the policies for PATH, the nomenclature and processes for counseling services provided via telephone to suicidal, despondent, or depressed individuals, and learning about community resources in central IL. PATH provides free telephone counseling services for suicidal or depressed individuals, as well as individuals presenting with a wide range of concerns. Additionally, PATH provides referrals for community services including additional counseling, health care, and rent assistance.As a phoneroom supervisor, I was also responsible for assessing other phoneroom volunteers for counseling skills, knowledge of community resources, and technical expertise.
