Chief Engineer

Chief Engineer for a unique project.• Responsible for the development of the long-term company vision concept aircraft to be taken through the full certification process. This includes an EASA Type Certification Application made in Jul 2018.• Utilised and developed innovative fresh thinking design and COTs equipment to push the technological boundaries and science involved in developing eVTOL aircraft. • Built a dedicated and highly motivated team in less than 8 months from the 6 original team members to the current size of 23 engineers covering all areas necessary for a Design Organisational Approval (DOA) organisation, successfully passing both Check Point 1 and 2.• I was the nominated Head of Design organisation for Vertical Aerospace’s Part 21 J application.• Successfully ensured that the Vertical Aerospace attained ISO:9001 accreditation in April 2018 only 8 months after being in post.

• Responsible for the organisation and enablement of the A380 and A400M Wing and Pylon engineering activities to meet the product development and delivery requirements in terms of Cost, Quality and Time with an annual operating budget of £27 million.• Ensured the integration of Non Specific and Specific design work for the engineering product deliverables, data for manufacturing, certification and qualification, in-service support, and support to manufacturing for the A380 and A400M Wing & Pylon.• Line manager for a large multinational organisation of 280 engineering personnel located in the Wichita (USA), Filton (UK), Toulouse (France) and Bremen (Germany).

• Responsible for the organisation and enablement of the A380 Wing and Pylon engineering activities to meet the product development and delivery requirements in terms of Cost, Quality and Time with an annual operating budget of £44.5 million.• Ensured the integration of Non Specific and Specific design work for the engineering product deliverables, data for manufacturing, certification and qualification, in-service support, and support to manufacturing for the A380 Wing & Pylon.• Line manager for a large multinational organisation of 450 engineering personnel located in the Wichita (USA), Filton (UK), Toulouse (France) and Bremen (Germany).

• Responsible for the organisation and enablement of the Single Aisle Wing and Pylon engineering activities to meet the product development requirements in terms of Cost, Quality and Time with an annual operating budget of £16.5 million.• Ensured the integration of Non Specific and Specific design work for the engineering product deliverables, data for manufacturing, certification and qualification, in-service support, and support to manufacturing for the Single Aisle Family.• Acted as the Project Leader for the Technical Expert Workshops for Spirit/GKN/Belairbus, delivering 4 multinational workshops involving all areas of the business and developed over 80 ideas to take forward with a potential to save £4 million per annum. • Delivered the Extended Service Goal justification which will allow the A320 family to extend the life of its wings and pylons by 25%.

• Held the overall financial, administrative and operating responsibility for this unique operationally focused unit, which inspects and repairs seriously damaged airframes worldwide for both metallic and composite structures.• Responsible for an overall budget of approximately £7 million that included an operational budget of £1.2 million which was reduced to £0.85 million over 2 years without loss of output or quality.• Held the position of Principle Design Engineer providing the final design airworthiness signatory and final stress signatory where required (600+ tasks).• Line manager for 165 military and civilian personnel. • Accredited the organisation to the Ministry of Defence DAOS Scheme and the ISO 9001:2008 standard within 9 months of taking post.• Awarded the BAeS Chairman’s Bronze Award for contributions to the Design for Repair Partnership between the Repair Design Authority and BAe Systems Design Office. • Guest Lecturer on the Cranfield University MSc Aerospace Vehicle Design Course.

• Responsible for operational planning of 450 turbo shaft engines fitted to the Puma, Gazelle and Jetstream TMk 2 airframes including sustainability, in service modification, airworthiness, and budget information for all 3 engine types.• Acted as the Safety Engineer for all 3 engine types which included developing and maintaining the safety case for each engine type and reporting to the management board any safety related matters. • Single point of contact for all engineering, operational and airworthiness matters for the Turmo 3C4, Astazou 3N2 and 16D engines for the United Kingdom.

o The recovery of all damaged and crashed UK military aircraft worldwide and civilian aircraft when requested by the Air Accident Investigation Branch.
